The Old Farmer's Almanac is projecting a hotter-than-normal summer for the U.S. Northeast. Boston, Brockton, and surrounding Massachusetts communities could see above-average temperatures and below-normal rainfall, according to the almanac.

In particular, Massachusetts is expected to experience hot and dry conditions in June and late July.

Brockton, for example, typically experiences average highs of 66 degrees in May, 78 degrees in June, 85 degrees in July, and 87 degrees in August.

Periods of heavy rain are expected to persist through late May ahead of the warm-up, the almanac noted.

"Rainfall predictions are less uniform but lean drier overall. Many regions, particularly across the East...are expected to see below-normal precipitation," it said.

Overall, much of the United States — especially the southern and eastern regions — faces a trend toward hotter conditions, according to the almanac's maps and regional charts, a report by The Enterprise found.

Looking ahead to autumn, the almanac predicts that September and October will be wetter and cooler compared to the summer.
