Boston has landed on a list of the most expensive summer tourist destinations in the country, according to a new report.
The new rankings issued by the online lender MoneyLion have Boston at No. 9 on the list for the most expensive tourist destinations in the country. According to the ranking, a week-long stay in Boston this June would total $6,062 for a family of four. This figure includes just under $3,000 for meals, $1,300 for a hotel, and $1,500 for airfare.
No New England destinations appear on MoneyLion's “most affordable” list, which singled out Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as the cheapest vacation spot.
Boston is gearing up for what travel and tourism officials say will be a busy summer with major events. They include the 16-day World Cup fan festival on City Hall Plaza, related World Cup watch parties at Gillette Stadium, and Sail Boston 2026 (July 11–16), which will feature dozens of tall ships as part of America 250 celebrations.
Meanwhile, Massachusetts is rolling out its own summer deals to improve affordability. According to a CBS News Boston WBZ-TV report, these deals include free Commuter Rail passes on Fridays in June, July, and August. Travel for the World Cup, however, remains costly with $80 train passes to Foxboro Station and $95 bus tickets for stadium access.
