Netflix is developing a scripted sports drama titled Glory Days from an individual known for developing some of television's most engaging ensemble stories.
Deadline reported that Netflix is working with writer and showrunner Josh Safran on the project, with Safran serving as executive producer alongside Nancy Cotton. Netflix declined to comment and has not confirmed the cast or air date.
According to a ComingSoon.net report, Glory Days follows top college baseball players recruited to Cape Cod each summer. Intertwined stories feature the coaches, players, and local townspeople as futures, families, secrets, and romances unfold.
The series is pitched as The OC meets Bull Durham, blending sports drama with ensemble storytelling set against the backdrop of the Cape Cod summer league.
Skydance Sports is producing Glory Days in collaboration with Netflix. If the project progresses to a series, Safran would serve as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
As ComingSoon.net reports, Safran has a track record for serving as a creator, showrunner, and executive producer on notable series such as Quantico, Soundtrack, Gossip Girl, and Smash. He previously worked as a writer-producer on the original Gossip Girl series.
Safran is directing the pilot for NBC's U.S. Marshal drama Protection, which stars Peter Krause and features a cast including Hope Davis, Tommy O'Brien, Kat Cunning, and Taylor Bloom.
