It's going to be a busy year and years ahead for Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) has already positioned itself to host major events like the World Cup in Boston, Tall Ships, and America's 250th anniversary activities this summer, but these activities only hint at what could be coming for Boston.
During an appearance on NewsCenter 5 WCVB's CityLine, John Barros, appointed as interim executive director of the MCCA, outlined a busy calendar through 2029 and beyond.
Barros explained that renovations at the Hynes Convention Center are proceeding with a $101.25 million investment over five years to refresh the venue and position it as an economic engine for Back Bay and the state. He added that the renovations at the Hynes Convention Center position Boston to potentially host the 2028 Democratic National Convention.
Barros also noted that ongoing conversations with local stakeholders in the convention and events marketplace will continue to focus on maximizing Boston's strengths while sustaining the industry's operational excellence. He further sees the MCCA as a strategic partner in the city's work to encourage engagement in activities, events, and programs from underrepresented communities across Massachusetts.
