Trader Joe's is expanding in the Boston region with a new store coming to the South Shore.

On Wednesday, April 15, the City of Quincy confirmed in a social media post that Trader Joe's will open in 2027. The South Shore has two locations of the specialty grocery store, one in Hingham and another in Hanover.

According to a Boston.com report, developers for the Atlantic Development/Hanover Company submitted a six-page signage plan on Tuesday, April 14.

“It is the first time Trader Joe's has been included on any official document related to the development,” the post said.

Local chatter previously nicknamed the store the “Grocer Who Shalt Not Be Named,” reflecting long-standing speculation about the retailer before the announcement.

Boston.com noted that the Quincy location will anchor a development on McConville Way that includes 300 housing units, a parking garage, and a Chipotle. A 100,000 square-foot ambulatory care center, operated by Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center, will also be part of the development. Construction on the facility began last year, with an anticipated 2027 opening.

“Trader Joe's will be a great addition, and it's also an incredibly important symbol of the progress we've made together as a community restoring the vitality of our downtown over the years,” Mayor Tom Koch said in the post.\
