Boston city officials urge people not to drive vehicles. Instead, runners and spectators are encouraged to use the MBTA or Blue Bikes, or walk when possible.

The Boston Marathon, held every year on Patriots' Day, passes through eight Massachusetts communities. The race starts in Hopkinton, weaves its way through Framingham and Wellesley, and ends in Boston.
