The Preservation Society of Newport County is offering “Inside The Gilded Age Tours” this spring and summer. Tours of the homes featured on the popular HBO series will run on Tuesdays and Fridays from May 12 through Aug. 28.
Tickets are limited to 12 per tour and must be purchased in advance on The Preservation Society of Newport County website. Tour times run from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., with bus transportation to and from the Gateway Transportation Center at 23 America's Cup Ave.
Guides will explain to visitors which scenes were filmed in each room, share the history of each house, and provide behind‑the‑scenes insights into hosting a major TV production across four National Historic Landmark house museums.
The guide-led tour experience will take visitors through Marble House, The Breakers, Chateau-sur-Mer, and The Elms.
On-screen connections to the series include the following:
- The Elms, as the Russell family's Newport cottage
- Marble House's dining room for Bertha Russell's dinner with the Duke of Buckingham
- Chateau-sur-Mer's dining room and ballroom for Mrs. Fish's doll tea party
- The Breakers' billiard room with the Cornelius Vanderbilt II billiard table
“Every season of The Gilded Age has brought more scenes filmed in our houses, and it's always a thrill to see them on the screen, populated by the characters we've come to know so well,” said Trudy Coxe, CEO and executive director of the Preservation Society, in a statement shared with What's Up Newport. “Of course, the houses and rooms are not identified in the show by their real names, so this tour is perfect for Gilded Age fans who want to discover the roles these historic spaces play in the drama.”
