The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced it will conduct maintenance on the Bourne Bridge that will require lane restrictions. This work is slated to begin at the end of April.

According to a CapeCod.com report, starting Monday, April 27, the bridge will operate with one 12-foot-wide lane in each direction, effectively reducing two lanes to a single lane per direction for the duration of the project. Lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day and are expected to remain in place until May 20.

The project includes replacing the pavement wearing surface, repairing winter-damaged steel joints, and maintaining roadway lights and drains. Additionally, the sidewalk on the bridge will be closed for about seven days while work is being done adjacent to it.

Motorists should expect delays during peak travel times across the bridge. Traffic control measures will feature signs, cones, message boards, and police details.

The maintenance is described as critical to preserving the structural integrity of the Bourne Bridge, a key conduit for Cape Cod, the Islands, and southeastern Massachusetts.
