The Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation has announced a multiyear investment to convert abandoned basketball and tennis courts into miniature soccer facilities in Pawtucket and Woonsocket, Rhode Island. This effort is a partnership with Project GOAL Inc. and the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
Two double mini-pitch soccer courts will be constructed at Jenks Middle School in Pawtucket and Dunn Park in Woonsocket. Construction is planned over the next two months, with an opening later in the spring, according to a Providence Business News report.
The project will feature field-marked courts with small goals designed to resemble soccer fields, improving soccer accessibility for local youth.
Bank officials explained that the investment in these courts reflects a continued growth in youth programs and communities in the Blackstone Valley.
“[This] is a long-term commitment to neighborhoods, to young people, and to places where opportunity can grow over time,” said Hal Horvat, CEO and president of Centreville Bank, in a statement shared with Providence Business News.
Project GOAL leaders say that the new courts will connect youth development programs with safe recreational space, expanding soccer opportunities for participants.
The initiative also coincides with the United States hosting matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which organizers say is spurring increased investment in local soccer infrastructure.
