The Cohasset Open Space and Recreation Committee is inviting residents to comment on the draft Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) for 2026-2036. This OSRP is meant to guide the town's parks, fields, and natural resources over the next decade.

According to a Cohasset Anchor report, Open Space and Recreation Plans must be updated every five to 10 years for communities to stay eligible for state grants. Cohasset's prior efforts included expanding recreation fields, adding sidewalks, implementing flood control improvements, mapping trails and storm drains, conducting a Lily Pond health study, and supporting Earth Day.

The 2026 plan is a comprehensive report outlining community goals and action items for open spaces and for passive and active recreation. It also documents the town's history and current resources.

The OSRP also includes an inventory of existing resources, needs identified by residents, progress since the 2019 plan was created, and overarching goals. These goals include the following:

  • Protecting natural lands
  • Securing clean drinking water
  • Boosting climate resilience
  • Improving access and connectivity
  • Expanding water recreation access
  • Increasing opportunities for all ages and abilities

As noted by the Cohasset Anchor, a key feature of the OSRP is an action plan detailing initiatives, timelines, responsible parties, and funding sources to achieve the plan's objectives.

Once approved by the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services (DCS), the final 2026 OSRP will enable Cohasset to apply for specific grant funds related to open space and recreation.

Residents are invited to contribute and comment on the draft OSRP for 2026-2036 by email before the March 31 deadline. The draft plan is posted on the Town of Cohasset's Open Space and Recreation webpage
