Since taking charge of Massport, which operates Logan, in 2024, Davey has prioritized both expanding and enhancing the airport experience. The goal is to expand parking capacity and enhance the overall traveler experience at Logan. This comes with ongoing upgrades to signage, wayfinding, and technology amenities, including the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E last September.
In a Boston Globe article, Davey said he is overseeing the new Terminal E garage project. This is a $450 million undertaking that broke ground last year and will add 2,000 parking spaces. A recent on-site review between Davey and a Boston Globe reporter highlighted confusing and evolving parking signage and temporary barriers.
Besides its on-location parking goals, Massport is hoping to direct more drivers to its Logan Express shuttle locations, including in Braintree, Framingham, and Quincy. Massport previously announced it is expanding airport passenger parking in Braintree, initially with 2,800 new spots.
In June, Massport announced it will begin a pilot program in Framingham that allows travelers to check their bags and clear security, bypassing the security lines at Logan. If this plan goes well, the program could extend to Braintree and possibly the Menino Convention & Exhibition Center in South Boston. According to the Globe, in 2025, more than 2.5 million people used Logan Express.
“Parking is a huge part of our revenue,” Davey said. “We need to get better at it.”
Besides parking, Davey said Massport is also focusing on the display monitors for baggage claim wait times, similar to the TSA wait displays that Logan unveiled during the week of March 16. Bathrooms are being upgraded, and Massport aims to attract more local and national restaurants to its terminal dining options.
