A Waltham homeowner recently got a visit from an unlikely guest.

WFXT-TV 25 reported on Wednesday, March 18, that a black bear was spotted near a Waltham resident's doorway and captured on Ring camera video.

The bear was seen walking onto a building deck, standing upright, and peering into a kitchen area of the home. WFXT did not specify the exact house the bear visited or whether it was invited inside.

According to a Patch of Waltham report, bear activity typically rises this time of year as bears emerge from hibernation and search for food, including items from human habitats.

Boston 25 News noted that animal control authorities recommend removing outdoor food sources, such as bird seed, trash, and pet food, and other attractants to prevent problems with bears.

Massachusetts is estimated to have approximately 5,000 black bears, according to state data. Authorities also confirmed that the Massachusetts black bear population has been growing and moving eastward in the state.
