JetBlue will run two nonstop flights each day on certain dates between April 14 and April 27. Planes will connect three Florida cities with Worcester Regional Airport. The airline plans extra trips to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Fort Myers when spring travelers pack the terminals.
Airport Director Andy Davis spoke with Spectrum News 1 on March 11. He explained that bookings surged during school breaks. "Since spring break has been so successful, particularly to Fort Myers, home of the Worcester Red Sox, Boston Red Sox training camp. So we will have jam-packed terminals and a lot of happy customers flying back and forth," Davis said.
This decision doubles what JetBlue can carry during busy April vacation days. Each route targets a different part of Florida — cruise ports, theme parks, and beaches all get covered.
Departures happen from noon until 6 p.m. One red-eye creates a 6 a.m. slot, while some planes touch down late at night depending on which day and where they're coming from. Davis confirmed the Massport-owned airport can manage the crowds. TSA staff stands prepared.
Fort Myers started as a winter-only option but grew into a seasonal staple after JetBlue began flying there in early 2024 with two trips per week. Demand pushed it to daily runs when Red Sox preseason kicked off, and it'll come back for the 2025-26 cold months.
Davis pointed out that JetBlue picked Worcester over competing airports nearby. "Worcester has been good to them. They could have put those additional flights at other surrounding airports. They chose Worcester and we really appreciate that," Davis said.
This push happens while JetBlue rebuilds after its Northeast Alliance with American Airlines ended and its Spirit Airlines deal fell through. The airline has been trimming routes in some places but adding more where vacationers want to go.
Worcester charges less than Boston Logan and gets planes back in the air faster. Highways make it easy for families from Central and Western Massachusetts to reach. Lines move quicker through security, and parking doesn't turn into a scavenger hunt like it does at big-city airports.
If seats keep filling up in April, industry watchers think JetBlue might run two Florida flights per day more often when travelers want them.
