Bridgewater has grappled with discolored water for years. Dozens of residents packed a town meeting Tuesday to demand answers. The town built a filtered water station where people can obtain clean drinking water.
Citizens aired their grievances over the absence of clear answers about when this mess might end. Officials haven't provided a concrete timeline for fixing the problem that has plagued the community.
The town declared a water supply emergency in December. That order prohibited all outdoor water usage and restricted indoor water use.
Bridgewater has established an interconnection water supply with the Town of Middleboro while upgrading its own water system infrastructure. In previous meetings, town leaders indicated that the process could require up to two years.
Town leaders said they are pursuing an expedited timeline to focus construction on integrating two wells into the new High Street water treatment plant. They are reviewing bids to start that process.
“We're trying to make this a priority issue,” Justin Casanova-Davis, Bridgewater town manager, said, according to WHDH.com .
The weekly town meeting attracted a massive crowd of worried citizens. Residents expressed anger at the ongoing delays and complained about how this affects their daily lives.
The filtered water station offers a temporary fix for drinking water needs. Yet many residents are concerned about using tap water for other household tasks.
The water supply emergency declaration in December marked a turning point in the crisis. Restrictions placed on water usage revealed the severity of the infrastructure troubles.
The partnership with Middleboro has provided some relief while construction proceeds. This interconnection permits Bridgewater to access an alternative water supply during the upgrade period.
Officials are now concentrating on completing the High Street water treatment plant integration. The two wells being added to the station are anticipated to improve water quality once construction wraps up.
The bidding process for the construction work is underway. Town leaders haven't announced when they expect to select a contractor or start work on the project.
