Two South Shore St. Patrick's Day parades are being postponed due to snow.
The Patriot Ledger reported that parades in Abington and Scituate have been postponed from Sunday, March 15, to Sunday, April 12, due to snow and unsafe road conditions from the Blizzard of 2026.
According to parade organizers, delaying the parades was a decision made out of an abundance of caution. Snow piles on parade routes remain a significant obstacle to holding the parades this month.
Abington St. Patrick's Day Parade
The Abington parade will kick off in St. Patrick's Square, at Orange and Washington streets. This parade will follow Washington Street, turn right onto Adams Street, and then right onto North Avenue, where it will conclude.
Scituate St. Patrick's Day Parade
Scituate will proceed with what it bills as the largest South Shore St. Patrick's Day parade. The parade will begin at the Scituate Senior Center, 333 First Parish Road, move down First Parish Road to St. Mary's Church, proceed left onto Front Street, pass through the downtown business area in Scituate Harbor, and conclude at the Scituate Harbor Community Building at 44 Jericho Road.
The two St. Patrick's Day parades are only two of several events in the region that have been disrupted by the weather. Barnstable issued an advisory on Feb. 26 notifying participants that the Hyannis Marathon, half marathon, 10K, and marathon team relay will not take place as planned due to unsafe road conditions following the blizzard.
