WHOOP has announced plans to bolster its presence in Boston.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, March 4, WHOOP officials noted it will create approximately 600 new jobs, most of them at its Kenmore Square headquarters in Boston.
These roles are expected to include technical, scientific, creative, and commercial functions. In addition to Boston, positions will also open across North America, Europe, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Asia.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey congratulated WHOOP, calling the expansion a strong vote of confidence in the state's economy and talent pool.
“Companies choose Massachusetts because of our incredible talent, world-class research institutions, and strong partnerships that help innovative businesses grow,” Healey said in a news release shared with Boston.com. “We're proud WHOOP continues to grow here.”
CEO Will Ahmed founded WHOOP at the Harvard Innovation Labs in Cambridge in 2012. The company opened its more than 100,000-square-foot Kenmore Square headquarters in 2023.
According to Boston.com, the wearable health-monitoring company offers memberships starting at approximately $150 annually and has millions of members worldwide, backed by more than $400 million in venture capital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ahmed said the expansion will help the company scale worldwide.
“Right now, companies are debating whether to hire more people or just invest in AI,” said Ahmed, in a statement. “We are doing both. We are doubling down on exceptional talent and doubling down on world-class AI tools because the combination is what wins.”
