In Central Massachusetts, 10 school districts reported that more than 80% of their high school graduates enrolled in colleges or universities in 2024. This finding is based on the most recent data from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

MassLive reported that Worcester County had an average of 64% of graduating students attending higher education institutions. This percentage matches the state average of 64%, according to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Worcester Public Schools reported about 49% of its approximately 1,800 graduates enrolled in higher education. Of this number, 38% enrolled in public four-year programs, 35% in public two-year programs, and 28% in private four-year institutions.

Winchendon, Southbridge, and Webster recorded the lowest shares of graduates entering higher education, at approximately 40% or lower.

Public two-year enrollment is strongest in Gardner (51%), with Fitchburg and Webster at 46%. These districts also account for the state's most substantial enrollment in community college, according to MassLive. 

Leominster leads the state university system with 35% participation, followed by North Brookfield at 33% and Oxford at 31%.

Finally, the Massachusetts Academy for Math and Science in Worcester reported that 94% of its graduates pursued higher education, followed by Hopedale (87%), Sutton (86%), and Shrewsbury (84%), according to MassLive.
