Revere's License Commission has approved Kowloon's plan to launch Tiki On The Beach. The tiki-style bar and restaurant at 21 Revere Beach Blvd. will provide alcohol service and entertainment.
The concept, branded Kowloon's Tiki on the Beach, centers on a nightlife-forward experience with a DJ and dance floor at the beachfront venue. A representative for Kowloon told CBS Boston WBZ-TV that the new “Tiki On The Beach” spot will likely include a police detail to manage bar patrons on the popular strip.
John Carlino, who will manage the restaurant, stressed that Tiki On The Beach will maintain a family-friendly atmosphere, serving good food and great drinks. He positioned the concept as a tropical, Hawaii-style tiki bar rather than a typical rock-show venue.
The venue is intended to seat about 180 total (approximately 120 indoors and 60 outdoors), according to a Northshore Magazine report. Opening hours are expected to be from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. with DJs, dancing, and live performances.
Licensing discussions are underway, and the full development plan has not yet been formally presented or approved by the City of Revere. Permitting and licensing are expected to progress in the coming weeks.
The space for Kowloon is being leased from Mike Aldi of Aldi Companies. The hospitality group is behind Dryft Revere and other local establishments, including Fine Line and Vivi's Tapas Bar.
The opening of the new location comes as Kowloon plans to wrap up its landmark restaurant, which has operated for more than 75 years on Route 1 in Saugus. This American-Chinese establishment in Saugus is set to be demolished to prepare for mixed-use apartment and retail buildings, which will include a reduced-size version of Kowloon.
