Plymouth's legislative delegation announced on Tuesday, Feb. 10, that it has secured 20 legislative earmarks totaling more than $1 million for Plymouth. These funds would help support projects such as the Spooner's Alley redevelopment, a veterans center van, a planning grant for a local veterans' home, and tourism initiatives.
The revitalization of downtown Plymouth played a significant role in the discussion. Sen. Dylan Fernandes detailed a move toward a long-term lease agreement for DCR property, which would permit a “town takeover” without the town having to surrender financial assets.
According to a South Shore News report, the State Pier revitalization was another topic of discussion. Discussion surrounded the $1.5 million in Seaport Economic Council grants for renovations and a proposal to run a summer tourist ferry between Plymouth and Boston to spur economic development.
A Select Board budget oversight workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. The board also plans to discuss the nation's 250th anniversary celebration at a future meeting and consider a potential $100,000 allocation to support local commemorative events related to this anniversary.
