Framingham Bakery, a longtime Italian bakery in Framingham, announced it will close on March 29 after 109 years in operation. The closure marks the end of an era for the bakery in the community.

A sign posted on Facebook confirmed the business closure. "Joan, Ernie, and Kathy thank our customers and employees for many years of memories," a sign within the post stated. The individuals mentioned are three grandchildren of a family member who operated the business soon after its launch.

CBS Boston WBZ-TV noted that, last October, the bakery went on Facebook to dispel rumors that it was closing. At that time, the owners said they "have been looking for good stewards" to continue operating the bakery. WBZ had reached out to the bakery for more details about why they are closing, but did not receive a confirmation.

In only a few hours, the recent closing announcement attracted hundreds of comments and shares from customers who said the pizza was a signature part of their youth.

Framingham Baking Co., established in 1917, is famous for its 18-square sheet pizzas. The bakery's tradition emphasizes fresh, handmade products with daily from-scratch baking, including the beloved sheet pizzas. It also made many types of bread, rolls, and desserts.

According to a Patch of Framingham report, the bakery started at 840 Waverly St. in Coburnville and operates branches in Holliston and Marlborough. There was no immediate confirmation on how many employees would be affected, and the company did not respond to media inquiries.
