New Hampshire officials have extended an emergency order that relaxes hours-of-service limits for propane and home heating oil deliveries through Saturday, Feb. 28. The extension aims to address winter weather impacts, staffing shortages, and fuel supply constraints.

According to a MyKeeneNow report, the state's Safety Commissioner Robert L. Quinn signed the extension. The order, originally issued Jan. 15, was set to expire on Feb. 15. Officials said the emergency measure would prevent service disruptions during winter storms and ongoing heating fuel shortages, both of which are concerns for residents and businesses relying on propane and heating oil.

The emergency order notes that drivers may work extended hours if able and requested, but carriers cannot require fatigued or ill drivers to work. Drivers needing rest must have at least 10 consecutive hours off the clock before returning to duty. The relief applies only to hours-of-service rules. Other federal and state requirements, including licensing, testing, financial responsibility, and weight limits, remain in place.

As the MyKeeneNow report stated, drivers must carry a copy of the emergency order while on duty. Those extending their work shift may reset their hours-of-service clock after 34 consecutive hours off at the end of the extended period.

The emergency declaration will automatically expire at midnight on Feb. 28 unless extended again.
