The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has announced that reservations for the 2026 state park camping season will open to the public on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m. Camping season at DCR's 25 campgrounds begins in April and continues through October.
The DCR notes the following for campers who want to book a reservation:
- Reservations are available up to four months in advance of arrival.
- Same-day reservations are available through Reserve America until 2 p.m. daily.
- Campers should complete all required fields of the reservation application at the time of booking.
- Visitors without a reservation are not allowed in campsites.
- All pets must have physical proof of a valid rabies vaccination.
Campground-Specific Notes
The DCR reminds the public of several special conditions associated with the following campgrounds this season:
- The Savoy Mountain State Forest campground will close on July 31 for the construction of a new bathhouse.
- Washburn Island will be open for camping on Thursday through Saturday nights, accessible only by private boat. Visitors must arrange parking elsewhere since there is no on-site parking at Waquoit Bay Reserve or White's Landing in Falmouth.
- This season brings new yurts at Clarksburg State Park and Nickerson State Park as part of ongoing campsite improvements.
- Yurt reservations are available at multiple state forests and parks, including Myles Standish, Nickerson, October Mountain, Clarksburg, Otter River, Shawme-Cromwell, Wells, and Willard Brook. Cabins are available at Mohawk Trail and Savoy Mountain. For details on cabins and yurts, see DCR's cabin and yurt camping webpage.
- Prospective campers for Mount Greylock State Reservation or the Boston Harbor Islands should monitor DCR updates on the agency's website and social media for camping schedule announcements.
According to a (Newburyport) Daily News report, last year, the DCR accepted approximately 65,000 camping reservations at parks across the state. For information and questions about the 2026 camping season, visit the agency's website or email the DCR.
