New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte has unveiled the state's commemorative license plate ahead of America's 250th birthday this July.
The commemorative 250th birthday license plate features the Old Man of the Mountain in a granite-blue and white color scheme with red and blue lettering, a ring of 13 blue stars around the number 250, and the years 1776 and 2026.
She highlighted New Hampshire's contributions to American history. They include the Pine Tree Riot of 1772 and the state hosting the First in the Nation Primary since 1920.
The plates, priced at $25, are available for ordering online through the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles website. Proceeds from the sale of the license plate support the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) and its grants to historic and natural resource projects.
According to a Boston Globe report, House Bill 260 authorized the creation of the license plates. Ayotte signed the bill into law last year.
“The New Hampshire DMV is honored to offer these commemorative plates that celebrate this major milestone in American history,” said John C. Marasco, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) director, in a statement shared with the Globe. The plate can be displayed on the front of a vehicle instead of the usual license plate from Jan. 1, 2026, until July 4, 2027, according to the DMV.
The Globe noted that Massachusetts created a sensation when it issued a state license plate commemorating the 250th. The plates were so popular that individuals had to wait up to six weeks to receive one.
