Costco is moving forward with plans to build its first store in Central Massachusetts in nearly three decades. It will target a site near Route 9 and I-495 in Southborough, positioning the town as the region's Costco hub.
According to a MassLive report, attorney John Weaver told members of the Southborough Planning Board in January that the company anticipates starting the project. Atlantic Management Corp., the Framingham-based development firm for the project, signed a deed for the site at 21 Coslin Drive on Jan. 30.
A comprehensive site plan and traffic plan submission is expected soon to move the project forward. As of January 2026, the Planning Board and Select Board were awaiting a formal ruling from the Attorney General's Office on the zoning change required for the project. MassLive reported that the zoning change needed to permit the development was approved by a majority of Town Meeting members last October.
According to MassLive, officials expect the Southborough Costco to open by summer 2027.
Massachusetts currently has seven Costco locations: Avon, Danvers, Dedham, Everett, Sharon, Waltham, and West Springfield.
