A calmer weather pattern has settled over New England for the week of Feb. 2, with sunny days and no major storms expected in the near term.
While very cold mornings are still expected over the next several days, afternoon temperatures will rise to near freezing through midweek. A weak system may bring a few flurries on Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, but overall precipitation through the end of the week should be minimal, according to an NBC10 Boston weather report.
Arctic air is likely to return for this weekend, Feb. 7-8. With this arctic air in place over the region, forecasters are staying vigilant for the potential of upcoming storm systems over the next seven to 10 days.
According to NBC10 Boston, seasonal snowfall totals remain above average in the region. Boston is at 34.1 inches (approximately 9.4 inches above normal), and Worcester is at 49.9 inches (approximately 13 inches above normal).
While unrelated to Punxsutawney Phil's Groundhog Day predictions of six more weeks of winter, weather forecasters said that it is unlikely New England will go through the rest of the winter without experiencing additional snowfall.
