JetBlue has dedicated Terminal C Gate 33 at Logan International Airport to a celebrated Boston sports hero.

The airline has honored Bruins legend Zdeno Chara by transforming the gate area with Boston Bruins colors, memorabilia, a mural of his career highlights, and a plaque. Items include wall graphics that allow travelers to measure their heights against Chara's height and three original seats from the historic Boston Garden.

JetBlue is a longtime sponsor of the Bruins and TD Garden, but this occasion isn't the first time that JetBlue has honored a Boston sports legend at Logan. It has a gate on the other end of the terminal dedicated to Red Sox legend David Ortiz.

According to a 7 NEWS Boston report, the dedication of the terminal gate followed Chara's number being raised to the rafters at TD Garden marks another milestone after his jersey retirement.

“Honestly, it was inspiration. And we thought, 'We can do this, too!'” said Marty St. George, JetBlue president, in a statement shared with 7 NEWS.

St. George said he hoped that Chara and his family would travel through Gate 33 in the future and perhaps witness a Bruins-branded plane one day.

Speaking about the honors Chara has received throughout his career, he said this recognition at Logan ranks among them.

“They all have a very special place in my heart,” he said.
