A new weekly outdoor farmers market is coming to Assembly Row in Somerville, starting Friday, June 12. The market will run Fridays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. between the Shake Shack and Caffe Nero at 355 Assembly Row.

According to a Patch of Somerville report, the market will feature about 30 vendor stalls offering organic produce, bread and pastries, dairy, grass-fed meat, fresh seafood, honey, maple syrup, jams, condiments, and mushrooms.

Confirmed vendors include Heavens Harvest Farm, Blisspoint Meadery, Simply Sharp, and Chockalog Farm. The Patch noted that vendors will be vetted for product quality, transparency, and compliance with local health codes. Organic vendors will be reviewed for certifications and training in organic practices.

Additionally, at least one vendor will hold SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and HIP (the Massachusetts Healthy Incentives Program) certifications.

“I have a deep love for our farmers markets in Somerville. It's so great to bring people closer to the source of their food in the most densely populated city in New England,” Mayor Jake Wilson said in a statement shared with the Patch. “Improving affordable access to healthy foods with SNAP and HIP is wonderful for our community, with food insecurity on the rise here."

“These markets are crucial outlets for Massachusetts farmers, which enable them to sell their products directly to consumers while providing greater access to fresh, healthy, locally grown produce and other foods," Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources Ashley Randle commented.

Individuals interested in becoming a vendor can email the market manager with any questions.
