Newport Winter Festival Returns With New Hot Dog Contest, Music Tributes Feb. 13–22

The 38th Annual Newport Winter Festival, running Feb. 13–22, will deliver 10 days of entertainment, culinary contests, and family events across several Newport venues.

According to a What's Up Newport report, new this year is the Newport WienerFest on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Newport Craft Brewing, featuring a Wiener Eating Competition at 1:30 p.m. with admission of $18 in advance or $20 at the door.

Culinary competitions will return, including the 29th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Newport Marriott; the Best Hot Drink Contest on Thursday, Feb. 19, at The Red Parrot; and the Mac & Cheese Smackdown on Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Newport Marriott Hotel.

Family entertainment runs all week, featuring acts like the Toe Jam Puppet Band, Magic by George, the Fire & Ice Mad Science Show, Reptile Shows of New England, a Teddy Bear Musical Celebration, a Princess Party, BubbleMania, and David Garrity, the illusionist.

Evening headliners include Bennie & The Jets (an Elton John tribute) on opening night, Friday, Feb. 13, at the Newport Harbor Island Resort. An Eagles tribute, Another Tequila Sunrise, will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, also at the Newport Harbor Island Resort. Meanwhile, the Winter Fest Comedy Show is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, at Newport Craft Brewing. Finally, Won't Back Down (a Tom Petty tribute) will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, at The Wyndham Newport Hotel.
