Big Y, a popular grocery chain, has announced plans to open four new stores in Massachusetts over the next two years.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Big Y officials stated that the locations will be in Fairhaven, North Dartmouth, Pembroke, and Saugus.

The Patch of Massachusetts reported that the Pembroke location is targeted to open first at 24 Mattakeesett St. in Pembroke Plaza. This 38,000-square-foot store, which formerly housed a Stop & Shop, will open sometime this spring or summer.

The Fairhaven and North Dartmouth locations will open in 2027, a Big Y spokesperson confirmed.

The 62,000 square-foot storefront at 7-9 Plaza Way in Fairhaven, which formerly housed a Big Lots, is expected to debut in spring 2027. In North Dartmouth, Big Y will open in a 55,000 square-foot space at Faunce Corner Road that previously hosted the now-shuttered Christmas Tree Shops.

Big Y's store in Saugus will open this year, according to Boston.com. It will occupy a space at 357 Broadway, replacing the former Amazon Fresh store there.

“These three new stores represent a significant milestone in Big Y's ongoing expansion into new towns throughout Massachusetts,” said Michael D'Amour, Big Y's president and CEO, in a statement shared with the Patch of Massachusetts. “With new locations in Pembroke, Fairhaven, and North Dartmouth, we're excited to become a part of new communities that we can serve and create welcoming spaces where customers feel at home.”

Altogether, the four stores will bring Big Y to five new towns in Massachusetts and push the company past 70 locations in the state.

Details on hiring and grand opening events are expected to be announced within the coming months.
