Several weeks of cold temperatures and a recent snowfall are bringing people to the slopes of Wachusett Mountain, where conditions have been superb for skiing.
“We've had a really good start” to the season, said Chris Stimpson, public relations manager of Wachusett Mountain, in a statement shared with the Sentinel & Enterprise. “We've had amazing low temperatures, so we're able to make snow.”
Wachusett Mountain reports 90% of its skiing terrain is open. A new six-seat chairlift is in operation, along with solid snowmaking and sought-after trails such as Oxbox Chute and Connifer Connection.
Nashoba Valley likewise reports favorable skiing conditions across varied terrain. A Snow Tubing Park and lessons are available for those who want to ski, from ages 3 to adult, with visitors from multiple states taking advantage of fast lifts and powdery trails.
“Mother Nature has been very cooperative,” said Nashoba Valley Ski Area owner Al Fletcher, who noted the cold conditions have allowed staff to make fresh snow. He said that Nashoba Valley is known for its ski lessons for children and adults. On Sunday, Dec. 28, many youngsters could be seen on the slopes. With 1,500 sets of ski and snowboard sets available to rent, guests will have no problems getting going.
“Going really fast on some of these black diamonds (trails) is really nice. And being able to just hop on these lifts (without a wait), I must have done like a dozen,” said Luke Zhu, of Philadelphia, who was visiting New England for the holidays with friends. “It's been fun, great weather.”
