The Roger Williams Park Zoo will host a free-admission day on Saturday, Dec. 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Zoo officials are asking visitors to donate nonperishable food to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank on that day.

Cardi's Furniture & Mattress will be on hand with a truck and staff to collect food donations that will support those in need in the Providence community.

Following the free day, the zoo will offer half-price admission from Jan. 1 through Feb. 28. Members do not need advance tickets, but all other guests should purchase tickets on the zoo's website

The Roger Williams Park Zoo is open Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and during Providence schools' vacations.

Stacey Johnson, the zoo's executive director, told The Providence Journal that free and half-price admission days give the community more opportunities to visit this New England attraction during the winter.

Visit the Roger Williams Park Zoo at 1000 Elmwood Ave. in Providence.
