Brockton High School staff are leading an effort this holiday to collect donations to provide necessities for students in difficult financial circumstances.
The fundraiser is part of a year-round program called Boxer Family First (BFF). The program also comprises a food pantry supported by the Charity Guild and a collection of free clothing.
Donations received by Friday, Dec. 12, will be used to purchase gift cards for students, aiming to replicate and expand on last year's success.
Guidance counselor Bonnie Ryle, Associate Principal Susan Fitzgerald, and guidance counselor Alison Ortiz oversee BFF. Ryle told The Enterprise that students' needs include events such as job loss for a parent, home fires, and housing changes due to deportation. Many students are also now seeking help for basic needs beyond Christmas.
To donate, individuals can visit the Brockton High School website or mail checks payable to Brockton Public Schools with “Boxer Family First Holiday Drive” in the memo. Donations of clothing and shoes can be dropped off at Brockton High School's main office.
Ryle said The Five Guys at the Westgate Mall will donate 25% of its profits to BFF on Dec. 16 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
