A coalition involving the MSPCA-Angell and five of its shelter partners is waiving adoption fees for dogs one year old and older as part of a holiday adopt-a-thon event.
Called "Snow Place Like Home," the event will run from Dec. 8 to Dec. 14.
"We started the coalition last year with the goal of reducing euthanasia in shelters across the state and improving the overall well-being of animals that call the Commonwealth home," said Jamie Garabedian, project manager in the MSPCA-Angell's Animal Protection Division, in a statement shared with NewsCenter 5. "A big part of that is lowering the barriers to adoption."
The following shelters will participate in the adopt-a-thon:
- MSPCA-Angell at Nevins Farm: Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4:30 p.m.
- MSPCA-Angell Boston Adoption Center: Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, noon to 3 p.m., Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
- MSPCA-Angell Cape Cod Adoption Center: Tuesday through Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- MSPCA-Angell Northeast Animal Shelter: Daily, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, noon to 3:30 p.m.; Saturday, by appointment
- Worcester Animal Rescue League: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, noon to 4 p.m.; open by appointment on Tuesday and Friday through Sunday

Additionally, those interested in adopting a dog can visit the Berkshire Humane Society on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals can complete an application online.
