The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is seeking volunteer ice fishing instructors to lead the Let's Go Fishing Program across the state. This program, federally funded through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, has a long history of teaching thousands of children and adults to fish safely and ethically.

A training session is planned for Saturday, Jan. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Headquarters, 11 Hazen Drive in Concord. Course materials and lunch are provided.

According to a Fish and Game Department news release, the training will cover teaching techniques, ice safety, ethics, fish identification, ecology, fishing regulations, and related topics. Once instructors have completed the training, they will have the opportunity to participate in programs and join an existing statewide group of volunteer fishing instructors. These programs include those hosted in partnership with schools, camps, scout groups, and community centers.

“Becoming an instructor is extremely rewarding and is an exciting way to get people involved in fishing,” said Let's Go Fishing Program Coordinator Kyle Glencross. “If you are passionate about hard-water angling and encouraging individuals, families, and local communities to get in on the action and enjoy the winter, this is definitely the opportunity for you.”

To sign up for this training session, email Lisa Collins to reserve your spot. Complete and return a Let's Go Fishing Program application form by visiting the department's website. To request a form by mail or email, contact 603-271-3212 or send an email
