Before the first snowflakes fell on Tuesday, Dec. 2, officials with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (DOT) were urging drivers to clear all snow and ice from their vehicles before traveling to prevent accidents and improve visibility.
The region's first snowstorm of the season contributed to slippery roadways and reduced visibility during the afternoon and evening commutes in New Hampshire.
As winter weather begins, the New Hampshire DOT also offers the following winter driving safety tips:
- Before driving, check your vehicle's tire pressure, windshield wipers, and lights to ensure safe operation in winter conditions.
- Clear snow from around the exhaust pipe to prevent carbon monoxide from building up inside your vehicle.
- Give snowplows plenty of space and reduce speed to accommodate plow crews working on the roads.
