The MSPCA-Angell has announced it is holding an emergency two-day adoptathon after two cruelty investigations led to nearly 150 animals being surrendered.

On Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22, all dogs in the organization's care, including puppies, will be available for adoption at a "pay-what-you-can" fee. Those interested in adopting are asked to visit one of the following shelters during open hours, which vary by location.

According to a NewsCenter 5 report, in one case of animal cruelty, 26 animals were seized in August from a property in Winchendon, including 24 dogs and two cats. Seven puppies were born in foster care following the seizure.

The second case of animal cruelty involved the seizure of 116 animals removed initially from a Plympton property in September. The majority of the animals were farm birds, including chickens, turkeys, geese, quails, and ducks, as well as one guinea hen. Two dogs, two cats, two ferrets, five rabbits, and five goats were also part of the animals seized.

The MSPCA also confirmed that 100 animals have been rescued over the last few months as part of other investigations.

"We really need adopters to come out and give any of the animals in our care — but especially dogs — a happy home to ensure that we'll be able to say 'yes' the next time that an animal needs help," said Chris Schindler, director of the MSPCA-Angell's Law Enforcement Department, in a statement shared with NewsCenter 5.

Individuals who want to adopt horses or other large farm animals should make an appointment online

The MSPCA-Angell is also in need of foster homes. More information on the organization's foster program may be found on the MSPCA's website.
