The MICHELIN Guide has arrived in Boston. On Tuesday evening, Nov. 18, the city's culinary community was heralded as part of the Northeast Cities edition.

The guide was released during a live ceremony in Philadelphia, which also made its first appearance in MICHELIN. Boston and Philadelphia join existing MICHELIN cities, including New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Only one of Boston's restaurants secured a coveted MICHELIN star: 311 Omakase in the South End received one star. No restaurants received either two or three stars.

Boston fared better in the Bib Gourmand category, with six restaurants making the cut. An additional 19 restaurants were named MICHELIN-recommended establishments.

According to a Boston.com report, restaurants can get one of the following ratings: Bib Gourmand (good quality, good value), one star (high quality cooking, worth a stop), two stars (excellent cooking, worth a detour), and the highest accolade of three stars (exceptional cuisine, worth a journey). Restaurants can also make the guide without receiving a star or Bib Gourmand recognition, known as recommended.

Mahaniyom, at 236 Washington St. in Brookline, earned an Exceptional Cocktail Award for its masterful cocktail program.

Below are the Greater Boston restaurants that achieved MICHELIN recognition for the inaugural Northeast Cities edition:
