Boston’s waterfront will glow once again as the beloved Trellis Lighting Ceremony returns to Christopher Columbus Park in the North End on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 5 p.m. The event, now in its 23rd year, marks the unofficial start of the holiday season for many Bostonians and waterfront visitors.

Each year, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department teams up with the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park to transform the area’s iconic trellis into a sea of 50,000 twinkling blue lights, stretching across the park’s path at 110 Atlantic Avenue. The spectacular display reflects off the harbor, creating one of the city’s most photographed winter scenes.

A Festive Evening for All Ages

This year’s celebration features a lineup of local talent and special guests. Performers from the North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) will share seasonal tunes, while Grammy Award–winning artist Joelle James adds a touch of star power with her soulful take on holiday classics. The Northeastern University a cappella group Pitch, Please! will round out the entertainment with creative renditions of favorites known to get audiences singing along.

No holiday kickoff would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, both of whom are expected to make an appearance at the park to spread cheer and pose for photos with families.

Local businesses are adding their own flavor to the evening. Guests can enjoy eggnog from H.P. Hood, clam chowder from Joe’s Waterfront, and cookies and hot chocolate courtesy of the Boston Marriott Long Wharf. There will also be holiday-themed arts and crafts activities led by local artists, making it a fun evening for children and adults alike.

A Season Full of Light

The trellis lighting is just one stop in Boston’s vibrant lineup of holiday festivities. The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will also host the ship lighting at Martin’s Park on November 29, the Copley Square Tree Lighting on December 1, and the Boston Common tree lighting—followed by the illumination of trees on Commonwealth Avenue Mall—on December 4.

Residents and visitors can find details on these celebrations and more at boston.gov/holidaylights.

For those who call Boston home, the Trellis Lighting at Christopher Columbus Park remains more than just an event; it’s a tradition that signals the warmth of community, even as the winter chill sets in.
