Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod plans to auction two original Christmas Tree Shops signs that sat atop the former retailer's Hyannis store, which closed in 2023 after the chain's bankruptcy. Funds raised from the auction of the signs will support the organization's work to build homes on Cape Cod. The signs, measuring 27 feet long, are being donated by the property owner.

According to a CBS News Boston report, Habitat President and CEO Wendy Cullinan originally asked to acquire another store artifact, a clock tower that was being dismantled from the building. But when she talked to the property owner about potentially receiving the clock tower for the auction, "they laughed, and laughed, and laughed," Cronin said.

One week later, the property manager submitted a counteroffer for the signs. The only problem? How to move and store them.

A board member connected Habitat with Shepley Wood Products, which provided the truck, storage space, and muscles to move the signs.

According to CBS News Boston, Habitat will display one sign in each of its ReStore outlets in Falmouth and Yarmouth. Cullinan said the organization plans to hold either a silent or online auction for the signs to raise funds for local home-building projects.

She further noted that there is a strong public interest in the signs. People are already calling and emailing to express interest in purchasing them.
