Boston has another new connection to a popular Food Network series hosted by the legendary Guy Fieri.

Syracuse.com reported that Funk 'n Waffles in Syracuse, New York, was showcased on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives: Triple D Nation on Friday, Nov. 7, on the Food Network. What ties the establishment and the show back to Boston is that the Funk 'n Waffles owner, Adam Gold, met up with Fieri in Boston to shoot new footage.

“This time, they [Fieri's crew] had me go out and meet up with them and shoot some footage of us chatting it up and kind of reminiscing,” Gold said this morning. “We were the only place in town where one of the owners actually interacted with Guy. They told me to drive out to Boston because we've got a different type of relationship than most of the other spots. I've worked with him personally on other shows, performed for him, [and] even done private parties.”

The Funk 'n Waffles-themed episode entitled “Triple D Nation: Funky Flavortown Tastemakers” revisits some of Fieri's top fun and funky spots. These locations include Funk 'n Waffles, a place he calls a “wicked-good waffle spot in Syracuse, still crankin' the tunes and plating new knockouts like the-bomb bulgogi and real-deal Reuben waffles.”

According to Syracuse.com, Gold, who fronts the local funk band Sophistafunk, has become a regular on Food Network. Last Friday's episode was his 19th on the network, including “Triple D,” “Guy's Grocery Games” (he's competed four times), and other appearances featuring his band.

Fieri first visited Funk 'n Waffles 14 years ago, when the restaurant occupied a space on the Syracuse University Hill. According to Gold, the visit revolutionized his business.

Since that time, Gold has opened three Funk 'n Waffles locations and a food truck before he settled his business into the current Armory Square spot, which he now owns. To prepare for Gold's latest appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives: Triple D Nationhe said the team has been enhancing the restaurant, adjusting the menu, and adding several new waffle types inspired by the show.
