Swampscott will host the second annual Pumpkin Toss at Phillips Park, a family-friendly composting event. The Pumpkin Toss is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During the event, Department of Public Works (DPW) crews will place targets on a DPW truck that attendees can try to hit as they toss pumpkins for composting. A platform will be provided for children to stand on to help them as they launch their pumpkins.

Participants who are bringing their own pumpkins to the event should remove glitter, paint, decorations, and candles from their jack-o'-lanterns before tossing them at the truck to ensure they are suitable for composting at a local farm.

If residents miss the toss, they can dispose of their pumpkins at public composting bins around town or through weekly Black Earth pickups, noted a Patch of Swampscott report.
