Catholic Medical Center (CMC), part of the HCA Healthcare family, broke ground on Nashua's first freestanding emergency room on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 338 Amherst St. The site previously was the home of the Leda Lanes bowling center.
The groundbreaking ceremony featured a blessing by the Most Rev. Bishop Peter A. Libasci, who tied compassionate care to the project's mission of health, healing, and hope.
When built, the 11,000-square-foot ER will represent a $16 million investment in health care services, complementing regional facilities and improving access to emergency services across southern New Hampshire. The facility is slated to open in mid-2026.
The Nashua Emergency Room will feature the following:
- 11 emergency bays, including a trauma bay
- Advanced imaging (CT, ultrasound, and radiology)
- An on-site lab
- A covered ambulance entrance
- Dedicated pediatric waiting and treatment areas
The facility will be staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and approximately 30 clinical professionals to handle high-acuity cases such as cardiac arrest, stroke, and severe injuries.
“The ER is often the front door for patients experiencing medical emergencies,” said Dr. Eide, HCA Healthcare New Hampshire's regional chief of emergency medicine, in a statement shared by the Patch of Nashua. “Delays in care can have serious consequences. That's why this facility is so important.”
Unlike urgent care centers, freestanding ERs operate 24/7 and provide complete emergency services. HCA already runs similar ERs in Seabrook, Dover, and Plaistow.
“This groundbreaking represents more than bricks and mortar. It's a commitment to the health and safety of this community,” John Skevington, chief executive officer of CMC, said in a statement shared by the Patch of Nashua. “We're proud to bring fast, expert care to Nashua, complementing the hospitals and clinics already serving the region. Emergencies don't wait, and neither should patients.”
