More and more, airports are increasingly becoming preflight hospitality hubs. In recognition of this trend, the website Upgraded Points identified the top U.S. airports that make it easy for travelers to drink and unwind before takeoff. Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) topped the list of the best airports for a boozy layover.

In this study, Upgraded Points evaluated data from individual airport websites and Google Reviews to rank the 50 largest U.S. airports based on three bar-related ranking factors:

  1. Bars and restaurants serving alcohol (per square mile) — concentration
  2. Bars and restaurants serving alcohol (per 10,000 daily passengers) — accessibility
  3. Average star rating of alcohol-serving venues — quality

According to its report, Upgraded Points weighed the ranking factors equally. The individual factors were assigned scores from zero to five, and then the factors were combined to reach a total score of zero to 100, with 100 representing the most favorable conditions. Airports with higher scores offer a higher concentration of bars and stronger guest satisfaction ratings.

In its analysis, Upgraded Points stated, "Boston's airport is packed with local flavor and plenty of spots to raise a glass. BOS ranks above average in all three categories, especially for bar density: 10.2 alcohol-serving venues per square mile, about 116% above the study average (4.7). Travelers can sip New England brews while catching a game at the Boston Bruins Bar or enjoy a wine flight at Vino Volo between flights."
