Framingham residents broadly support building a splash pad at Cushing Memorial Park. This feedback comes from a city survey conducted from Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, which drew 456 responses.
“Cushing Memorial Park is one of Framingham's most treasured public spaces, and the addition of a splash pad will make it an even more vibrant destination for families,” Mayor Charlie Sisitsky said in a statement shared with MetroWest Daily News. “Our residents made their voices heard loud and clear; they want a fun, inclusive, and environmentally responsible play space for children of all ages.”
Nearly half of respondents (about 49%) favor a natural or organic design inspired by nature, while approximately 35% prefer a playful or themed design. Most (approximately 78%) said a theme isn't necessary, although most of the respondents cited aquatic, nature, and animal concepts.
A majority (61%) said the splash pad should serve all age groups, and 87.5% support creating separate play zones for different ages to enhance safety and enjoyment.
Survey results show strong interest in interactive, ground-level water features — such as spray bloom, hopping water, water tunnel, spray loop, mushroom, and splashing animals — with approximately 61% favoring interactive activators, play-reactive features, and rotating sprays.
According to MetroWest Daily News, approximately 94.3% of respondents identified as Framingham residents, representing all nine City Council districts.
A public feedback session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Loring Arena to gather additional input.
