Andover is being taken over by scarecrows this month.
The community is celebrating the 13th annual Scarecrow Festival, organized by the Andover Coalition for Education (ACE), along Main Street. More than 90 colorful scarecrows created by local schools, businesses, and families are on display, united under the theme "Every Scarecrow Has a Story."
According to Boston.com, the scarecrow display began on Saturday, Oct. 18. It will run through Saturday, Nov. 1. Residents and visitors are encouraged to spend some time strolling through Andover's streets to see all the scarecrow characters.
In addition, festival organizers have offered a scavenger hunt for kids. Those who complete the scavenger hunt can pick up their prizes at the Andover Bookstore and Learning Express in downtown Andover.
Proceeds from the festival benefit district-wide education programs and grants, making the event a key fundraiser for Andover-area schools.
According to the Andover Townsman, the program has raised more than $30,000 to date. Several levels of business sponsorships are available.
