MBTA Plans Service Changes on Four Transit Lines in November

The MBTA has announced a series of service changes across multiple lines in November to support ongoing infrastructure upgrades and modernization efforts.
Green Line
The Green Line will suspend service between Park Street, Union Square, and Medford/Tufts from Nov. 4–13 due to the installation of the Green Line Train Protection System infrastructure. Shuttle buses and alternative routes will be provided.
Orange Line
Orange Line service will be suspended between North Station and Forest Hills during the weekend of Nov. 1–2. Free, accessible shuttle buses will make stops between Forest Hills, Back Bay, and Copley on the Green Line, but no shuttle bus service will operate between Back Bay and North Station.
Orange Line service will also be suspended between Back Bay and Forest Hills from approximately 8:30 p.m. through the end of service on Friday, Nov. 14. This service suspension will continue through the weekend of Nov. 15–16.
Red Line
The Red Line will experience service suspensions between North Quincy and Braintree from Nov. 15–23. Shuttle buses will replace trains between North Quincy and Braintree. Riders are encouraged to use the Middleborough, Kingston, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines for fare-free service between Braintree, Quincy Center, JFK/UMass, and South Station.
Framingham/Worcester Commuter Rail Line
On the Framingham/Worcester Line, track and signal upgrades will lead to weekend service suspensions between South Station and Framingham during the weekends of Nov. 1–2 and 8–9. Free, accessible shuttle bus service will replace train service between Framingham and South Station.
- Shuttle Bus Route 1 will service Framingham, West Natick, Natick Center, Wellesley Square, Wellesley Hills, and South Station.
- Shuttle Bus Route 2 will run between Wellesley Hills, Riverside, on the Green Line D Branch for connections to the subway, Auburndale, West Newton, Newtonville, Boston Landing, and South Station.
- Shuttle Bus Route 3 will operate between Framingham, West Natick, Natick Center, Wellesley Square, Wellesley Hills, and Back Bay.
- Shuttle Bus Route 4 will run between Wellesley Hills and Riverside on the Green Line D Branch for connections to the subway, Auburndale, West Newton, Newtonville, Boston Landing, and Back Bay.
