On Friday, Oct. 17, hundreds of coats were donated to children at the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Dorchester.

The coats were provided by FedEx in partnership with Operation Warm. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to supplying new coats and shoes to children in need.

"To have outside partners come into our school community, it's really remarkable to be a part of," said Principal Dr. Mario Pires in a statement shared with NewsCenter 5 Boston. "It feels good to see them happy and smile and know we have their back, literally and figuratively."

According to the school, 97% of its students are classified as "high needs."

"It's probably the greatest thing I get to do all year," said FedEx's Ryan Brasser to NewsCenter 5. "They'll go through; they'll get the color and the size of the coat they like."
