The Boys & Girls Club of Lynn celebrated its eighth annual gala in Danversport. This event attracted a record 550 guests and raised nearly $300,000 to fund programs and support a major building project.
Funds raised at the event are designed to bridge the gap between program costs and family charges.
The event featured prominent community figures, including Julian Edelman, a former New England Patriots star and Super Bowl MVP, who served as guest emcee and shared his journey from Boys & Girls Club member to NFL hero.
During the gala, Brendan Ward, a partner at Touchstone Law Offices and supporter of the Boys & Girls Club, spoke about the importance of providing opportunities for all children to succeed.
“I think it's very important that all kids have an opportunity to be supported with education, sports, and enrichment. This is a great honor," he said in a statement shared with itemlive.com.
The gala also honored individuals who have made significant contributions to the Boys & Girls Club, including Ward and Magnolia Contreras, vice president of community health at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. John Pavia was posthumously recognized for his dedication as a teacher and coach.
GE Aerospace, a global leader in aerospace technology, was acknowledged as a key supporter of the Boys & Girls Club.
According to itemlive.com, the Boys & Girls Club has embarked on a $25 million renovation of its facility. The back section of the club was removed and will be replaced by a new wing that will consist of three floors to match the front.
In addition to a new gym and pool, the facility will feature a full cafeteria with industrial kitchen, fitness room, two additional licensed child care classrooms, and a dance and theater room. A new teen space will provide programming for college preparation, career readiness, and community service and club service.
“For a generation, the Boys & Girls Club has been changing lives,” said Boys & Girls Club Board Chair Adriana Moschella in a statement shared with itemlive.com. “Kids need to know that someone believes in them. The work at the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn is not optional, it's essential.”
