The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is offering free in-person snowmobile and OHRV safety education classes. Registration is now open for the upcoming winter season.
Online safety classes are available for $34.95 and include practical safety instructions and rules for trail riding. They can be completed via smartphone, tablet, or computer through interactive modules and live-action videos.
According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, to operate a snowmobile or OHRV in New Hampshire, individuals ages 12 or older must have either a valid driver's license or complete an approved OHRV and snowmobile safety education class, which can be attended in person or online.
Youth younger than 14 must be accompanied by a licensed adult older than 18 when operating snowmobiles or OHRVs, even on private property.
In addition to providing safety education, New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers will conduct patrols during the winter to enforce safety regulations, speed limits, prevent unlawful off-trail riding, and detect modified exhaust systems to ensure trail safety and accessibility.
Participants of the safety education courses are encouraged to join local snowmobile and OHRV clubs. “Joining a club is a great way to learn about safe riding, help support local landowners, and help maintain trails for your own and others' enjoyment,” said Captain Michael Eastman, OHRV/Snowmobile Education and Law Enforcement Coordinator for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, in a New Hampshire Fish and Game Department news release.
