The City of Worcester's MassHire Central Region Workforce Board announced it has received $423,185 from the state. The city will use the funds to train and place 40 unemployed and underemployed adults in roles within the city's water and wastewater treatment plants and as system operators.
These funds are part of a $7.4 million workforce development grant that will fund 16 initiatives across the state. Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey announced the grant awards on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
According to a Patch of Worcester report, the city will partner with organizations such as Upper Blackstone Clean Water, Weston & Sampson, the Massachusetts Water Environment Association, and nearby towns, including Grafton and Uxbridge, to implement these workforce development programs.
“Workforce Success Grants give residents the opportunity to gain new skills and launch careers in high-demand fields,” Healey said in a statement. “These programs help people earn good wages, build long-term career paths, and connect directly with employers who need their talents.”
